Cavs' Shumpert has knee drained, will miss rest of regular season

The Cleveland Cavaliers will be without shooting guard Iman Shumpert for their final two games of the regular season, the team announced.

Shumpert missed Saturday's game against the Chicago Bulls due to soreness and swelling in his left knee, and had the knee drained on Sunday. He'll rest and undergo additional treatment in the coming days, but the Cavs expect him to be available when the playoffs kick off on the weekend.

Cleveland has yet to lock up the top seed in the Eastern Conference, needing a win or a Toronto Raptors loss over the final two games to secure No. 1. That's the only matter of consequence they'll be playing for this week.

Still, with Toronto set to face the two worst teams in the East while the Cavs play two playoff teams jockeying for crucial seeding, the top spot in the conference is very much in play. Despite a down year offensively, Shumpert has been the Cavs' most reliable defender of opposing guards, and the team has been 3.5 points per 100 possessions better with him on the floor. Cleveland is 39-15 when he suits up, and a comparatively pedestrian 17-9 when he sits out.

Meanwhile, reserve point guard Mo Williams has also been experiencing left knee soreness, and will travel to Florida to visit the esteemed Dr. James Andrews for an evaluation.
