Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr finally said Saturday night what many have believed for the last few weeks: That setting a new NBA regular-season wins record is not that important to him.

"I don't care that much," Kerr said after the Dubs' tight, 100-99 win over the Memphis Grizzlies, according to The Vertical's Michael Lee.

Kerr has been in the position of trying to balance the need for his players to rest ahead of the postseason with their own desire to make history. Last week he said he was "not really pushing" to set the record, while repeating the mantra "records are broken, championships are forever."

From a history book perspective, Kerr benefits either way. A key member of the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls who set the current all-time record of 72-10, the second-year head coach has said all season that he can't lose. Kerr is actually surprised the Bulls' record is even being threatened.

"I never imagined anyone would come close," Kerr said. "And we're close."

Kerr's balancing of matters worked out Saturday. He kept Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson all around an imposed 35-minute limit, and the Warriors still won. The next test comes Sunday night against the San Antonio Spurs.
