Report: Conley won't withdraw from Team USA consideration due to Achilles injury

It appears as though Mike Conley's chances of taking part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this summer are far greater than him suiting up for the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA playoffs.

While he hasn't been officially ruled out for all remaining games, Grizzlies head coach Dave Joerger recently hinted that Conley is unlikely to return to the lineup as he deals with tendinitis in his left Achilles.

As far as potentially making the final roster for USA Men's Basketball is concerned, Conley will not withdraw his name from consideration as one of the 30 finalists, a league source told Cleveland.com's Chris Haynes.

Conley has been sidelined with the injury since March 8, with his timetable for recovery originally set at 3-4 weeks. The Rio Olympic Basketball Tournament doesn't take place until August, which should give the 28-year-old ample time to fully recover should he be named to the 12-man roster.

The problem, though, is that the crop of point guards vying for a spot is extremely deep, with Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, Damian Lillard, John Wall, and Russell Westbrook all in the running. Chris Paul was once in the fold, but recently bowed out so he could rest during the offseason.

In 56 games this season for the 42-36 Grizzlies, Conley is averaging 15.3 points on 42.2 percent shooting, along with 6.1 assists and 2.9 rebounds.
