Gasol out with knee tendinitis

Lakers big man Pau Gasol will be held out of action tonight in Houston due to knee tendinitis and is listed as day-to-day, according to ESPN Los Angeles.

Gasol, who is averaging just 12.6 points and 8.9 rebounds through the first month of the season, has been under heavy criticism in Los Angeles with the Lakers off to a disappointing 8-9 start.

Citing an unnamed source, the ESPN LA report states that Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak has told Gasol's representatives that if the big man cannot adjust to coach Mike D'Antoni's system, the team will have to explore the possibility of a trade.

After Sunday's loss to the Magic, Kobe Bryant called out Gasol, saying the veteran "has to make some adjustments" before stating: "Put your big-boy pants on. Come on, just adjust. You can't whine about it or complain about it."

The Lakers have called up Canadian rookie Robert Sacre from the team's D-League affiliate to fill in for the time being, while Antawn Jamison will start in Gasol's place at power forward.
