Stern: "Substantial sanctions" coming against Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs rested Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker and Danny Green against the Miami Heat on Thursday in what was supposed to be a marquee national television matchup.

NBA commissioner David Stern wasn't happy about San Antonio's decision ahead of a highly anticipated game for fans and released the following statement: "I apologize to all NBA fans. This was an unacceptable decision by the San Antonio Spurs and substantial sanctions will be forthcoming."

Popovich decided to hold the players out for fatigue concerns as the Thursday matchup in Miami was the team's 12th road game in the month of November and fourth game in five nights.

The Spurs, who were already without Kawhi Leonard and Stephen Jackson due to injury, actually played a competitive game that saw them hold a lead in the final minute, but they ultimately fell 105-100 to the defending champions.
