NBA Game Summary - Washington at LA Lakers
Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Pau Gasol tied a season high with 28 points and Kobe Bryant scored 20 of his 24 points in the second quarter, as the Lakers took a 99-92 victory from a Wizards club riding an 11-game losing streak.
Ron Artest added 16 points and Shannon Brown 13 off the bench in Los Angeles' sixth straight win.
Nick Young tied a season-high with 22 points and Al Thornton scored 18 for Washington in the finale of a four-game road trip. Andray Blatche checked in with 16 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, while Mike Miller added 11 points.
"We didn't come out with enough energy early. We didn't give up, but we have to find a way to squeak out a win," said Wizards coach Flip Saunders.
LA held a 24-18 edge after 12 minutes of action and were buoyed to a 59-33 halftime advantage on Bryant's 20-point effort in the second.
The Lakers had their biggest lead at 28 on Bryant's jumper to open the second half and the hosts were still comfortably ahead, 82-60, moving to the fourth.
The Wizards were only able to rally to within single digits with less than two minutes remaining as a Shaun Livingston bucket made it 94-86.
"We played an awful second half, no intensity," said Lakers coach Phil Jackson. "We played extremely well in the first half, we just can't keep the intensity for 48 minutes and that concerns me."
