NBA Draft Profile: Tyler Zeller
Tyler Zeller - C - 7’0, 247lbs.
No matter where Tyler Zeller ends up on Thursday night, you can bet the fans of his new team won’t exactly be enamored with the selection.
Zeller isn’t a sexy pick, but he has all the tools to make an instant impact for a team in the middle of the first round. The big man from Washington, Indiana excels at running the floor. Unlike many kids his size, Zeller can also catch the ball in transition with fluidity and finish around the basket.
On a team with surefire first round picks in Harrison Barnes, John Henson and Kendall Marshall, Zeller may have been the most consistent Tar Heel this past season. He’ll have to add some bulk to his slight frame to play center in the Association, but the seven-footer has shown his ability to get better year after year.
Much of the Zeller hype three months ago focused on Tyler’s brother, Cody. Sleep on Tyler at your own peril, because players that thrive on hard work are hard to find to find.
During the season, ESPN's Chad Ford wrote “Scouts say they love players who come back every year with more wrinkles to their game. Zeller has done that in spades.”
