NBA Draft Profile: Tony Wroten Jr.

Tony Wroten Jr  PG 6’6, 203lbs.
Washington

Tony Wroten Jr. could be the biggest boom or bust prospect available in this year’s draft. Put simply, the basketball Gods were very kind to the Seattle native. At 6’6 with a 6’9 wingspan, Wroten’s size is NBA-ready. The combo guard has excellent court vision. Combining his above average passing ability with excellent finishing skills has led NBA talent evaluators to compare Wroten to Kings guard Tyreke Evans.

As with many young players, Wroten’s shot selection and shooting in general need to improve. 58 per cent from the free throw line and 18 per cent from behind the arc isn't good enough. Wroten was able to get to the rim with ease at the collegiate level due to his freakish size – something he’ll have trouble with in the NBA.

Wroten is projected to be a late-first round pick, but it would not be surprising to see a team in the 10-to-20 range take a chance on a player with huge potential.

ESPN's Chad Ford recently wrote that sources believe “the Atlanta Hawks have become enamored with Wroten at number 23.”
