Report: Mutual interest between Heat and Ray Allen

Fresh off of an NBA Championship, the Miami Heat are already thinking about next season. There is mutual interest between the Heat and soon-to-be free agent guard Ray Allen, according to ESPN.

At 36 years old Allen's career is winding down, but the future Hall of Famer has expressed his desire to continue his playing career, whether it is with the Boston Celtics or not. While the veteran did undergo minor surgery to remove bone spurs in his ankle, he is not expected to miss any significant time.

The Heat can offer the NBA's all-time three-point shooting leader a mid-level $3 million salary but, for a player who earned $10 million last season, that might not cut it. Allen will most definitely have offers to earn more money if he doesn't sign with the Heat, but he will have to decide if the opportunity to win another NBA title is worth more than money.

Allen averaged 14.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game in the 2011-12 season.
