NBA Draft Profile: Kevin Murphy
Kevin Murphy - SG - 6’6, 194 lbs.
Tennessee Tech
Murphy has NBA-range on his jump shot right now. He can knock them down in catch-and-shoot situations and off the dribble. The seventh-leading scorer in the NCAA does a great job of using screens to get free and has no problem hitting contested mid-range jumpers. If his NBA coach is willing to run some plays for him, Murphy will make an impact in his rookie season and beyond.
However, if his defence and passing don’t improve, he risks becoming buried on the bench. His game appears to have many of the same positives and negatives as shoot-happy youngsters like Nick Young and MarShon Brooks, who have both carved out roles in the NBA.
ESPN’s Chad Ford is skeptical of Murphy’s pro potential: “His lack of strength is an issue. So is the fact that he struggled mightily in Tennessee Tech's three biggest games of the season, against Miami, West Virginia and Murray State.”
Murphy is most often projected as a second round pick.
