Blake Griffin to sign massive off-season extension

According to the LA Times, the Los Angeles Clippers will sign power forward Blake Griffin to a 5-year, $95-million extension on July 1st.

Griffin is not set to become a free agent until the 2014 season, but the Clippers will try and lock up a deal as soon as possible with Griffin becoming eligible for a contract extension.

Griffin will play in his third season since being selected by the Clippers 1st overall in the 2009 NBA draft. In 66 appearances this season, Griffin averaged 20.7 points per game and 10.9 rebounds per game.

The chances of this signing would improve immensely if current director of player personnel, Gary Sacks becomes the Clippers next general manager. Since the previous general manager, Neil Olshey signed a deal with the Portland Trail Blazers, the Clippers have been looking to fill the void. Sacks may have the advantage having spent 18 years with the organization. Sacks is also a close friend with Griffin's agent, Sam Goldfeder, which could help keep the all-star forward in a Clippers uniform.
