Logano wins New Hampshire, locked into Round 2 of the Chase

Team Penske proved there's no better way to start the Chase than having both drivers win the first two races of the 10-race playoff.

The two-car team added to their early Chase dominance Sunday, with Joey Logano winning the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

There were nine restarts in the final 100 laps and Logano was on top of his game every time the green flag waved.

“The team gave me something to win with,” Logano said in victory lane. “We had some good restarts, that’s for sure.”

For the Connecticut-born racer, New Hampshire Motor Speedway is considered Logano’s home track. He picked up his first Sprint Cup Series win at the one-mile oval, but it was a rain shortened race. This win felt for legitimate for him.

“To me, this is my home track,” Logano said. “I had to win the right way here. I was hoping for a top five last night, because it’s not my best track. So this means so much to me.”

It was a caution filled day, with Chase and non-Chase drivers alike vying for top positions. Ten of the 16 drivers either received damage to their race cars, or suffered a pit road error, which lost them spots on the track.

Logano’s teammate Brad Keselowski remains atop the Chase standings with 2097 points. With one race remaining in this round, the four drivers in danger of being eliminated are Denny Hamlin (2049), Greg Biffle (2049), Kurt Busch (2047), and Aric Almirola (2045).
