Report: CM Punk to undergo back surgery; UFC debut delayed

MMA fans and pro wrestling fans alike will have to wait a little longer to get a look at CM Punk in the Octagon.

The former WWE champion will undergo back surgery Wednesday to repair a herniated disc, MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani reports.

"My back has always bugged me," Punk (real name: Phil Brooks) said of the ailment. "Figured it was just wrestling shit. Turns out it was.

"It got bad enough to the point where I couldn't do anything the week before I went to train with the New Jersey Devils last month. One day I could manage, the next day I couldn't. I've been in agony for almost a month. Chiropractor, acupuncture, massage, cryotherapy ... nothing worked."

The surgery will delay Punk's UFC debut fight, which was announced recently to be against Mickey Gall, but he reportedly still intends to fight this year.

Previously, Punk's debut was delayed by a shoulder injury. He signed with the UFC in 2014 and has yet to fight in the promotion.
