Cain Velasquez underwent a successful operation on his back Monday morning.

The recently shelved UFC heavyweight contender took to Facebook to provide an update on the injury that knocked him out of his title fight with Fabricio Werdum that was originally scheduled for Feb. 6:

"My doctors have recommended I take it easy for now but can begin light training in about two weeks," Velasquez wrote. "They also think I'll be able to train at 100 percent in about four to five weeks. I'll follow their orders but I can't wait to get back in there."

UFC president Dana White has maintained an optimistic view of Velasquez's latest setback and it looks like the former champion will be back in action sooner rather than later.
