Belfort not ready to retire following UFC 187 loss to Weidman

Things didn't go as planned for Vitor Belfort at UFC 187 on Saturday night, but that doesn't mean "The Young Dinosaur" is ready to hang up his four-ounce gloves.

"Oh, no," Belfort said about potential retirement during the post-fight press conference, according to Sherdog.com's Mike Sloan. "I have a life, a family. I just want to enjoy my life a little bit.

"I'm happy, but I'm very frustrated at the same time," he continued. "I think what's next is we need to just reset. It was a very tough night for me. I didn't expect it to go the way that it did, especially when I saw my finish, but he's the better man. He took it."

Belfort came out against Chris Weidman like a man possessed, bloodying up the middleweight champion with a violent flurry of uppercuts from the clinch. Undaunted, Weidman survived the onslaught, and quickly turned the fight in his favor, dumping Belfort to the floor with a power-double before unleashing a torrent of fists and elbows until referee Herb Dean mercifully waved off the bout at 2:53 of the opening stanza.

Despite the war of words that preceded the two years-in-the-making fight, Belfort was quick to give Weidman his due as the cream of the crop at 185 pounds.

"Weidman is the real champion. There is no excuse," Belfort said. "I tried to stand-up for five rounds, but I didn't have it. I'm sorry, guys. I give thanks to God, my family and my friends. That's life. That's the key of life, when you get knocked down, you have to get back up again."
