B.J. Penn joins UFC Hall of Fame class for 2015

B.J. Penn was named to the UFC Hall of Fame's modern wing Saturday at UFC 187.

Penn compiled a 16-10-2 mixed martial arts record, and held the UFC Lightweight Championship from 2008 to 2010 and the UFC Welterweight Championship in 2004.

The 36-year-old joins Bas Rutten and the late Jeff Blatnick in the first class to enter the revamped Hall of Fame.

Penn lost his final three fights, with his last victory coming against Matt Hughes in November 2010 at UFC 123.

Following his final fight, the last of three defeats to Frankie Edgar in July 2014, Penn announced his retirement from the sport.

Penn was ranked as the 10th-best fighter of the decade by Sports Illustrated in 2009.
