VIDEO: Shields submits Ford in WSOF debut

Bruce Fedyck / USA TODAY Sports

Jake Shields may no longer be a member of the UFC, but he still looks like one of the best welterweights in mixed martial arts.

Shields faced top Canadian welterweight Ryan Ford at WSOF 14 in Edmonton on Saturday. After dropping to the mat following a hard jab from Ford, Shields took the fight to the ground, where he dominated his opponent with some high-level grappling.

With roughly 30 seconds left in the first round, Shields caught Ford in a rear-naked choke to earn his first finish since June 2009.
