Letourneau officially signs with Bellator
The Bellator flyweight division just added another contender.
Valerie Letourneau has officially signed with Bellator MMA, according to multiple sources. The move was first reported by MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani.
"Trouble" was in attendance at Bellator 178 last Friday in Uncasville, Conn. and it seemed inevitable that Letourneau would make the jump to the promotion after parting ways with the UFC in February. Letourneau had campaigned for the UFC to start a 125-pound division after having to make several tough weight cuts down to 115 pounds, something that will no longer be an issue in her new home.
After losing a unanimous decision to Joanna Jedrzejczyk in a UFC strawweight title fight, Letourneau dropped her next two contests to Joanne Calderwood and Viviane Pereira. Things will not get easier for her in the Bellator flyweight division, which already houses the likes of Ilima-Lei Macfarlane, Colleen Schneider, and Lena Ovchynnikova.
Letourneau is expected to make a late summer debut.
