Cyborg vacates Invicta FC 145-lb title, wants De Randamie at UFC 214

Cris Cyborg is ready to claim what's hers.

In a Friday video message, the 31-year-old announced she'd vacated her Invicta FC featherweight title and challenged UFC titleholder Germaine de Randamie to a 145-pound championship bout at UFC 214 in Anaheim, Calif., on July 29.

Long touted as the world's preeminent featherweight, Cyborg cheekily deemed De Randamie the No. 1 contender for the UFC strap as opposed to the promotion's inaugural champion at 145 pounds, which she became with a controversial decision win over Holly Holm at UFC 208 last month.

Now recovered from a pair of grueling cuts to 140 pounds and free of the USADA's wrath thanks to a retroactive therapeutic use exemption for a banned diuretic that got her flagged in December, Cyborg can stake her claim as the world's top featherweight unimpeded. As stated in the message, the proverbial ball is now in De Randamie's court, as the Dutchwoman revealed a nagging hand injury might require surgery, but has yet put a date on her return to the Octagon.

Cyborg warmly thanked Invicta FC for bringing her into the fold at a time when major promotions were reluctant to invest in a women's featherweight division. She joined the outfit in 2013, and became its first 145-pound champ with a fourth-round TKO of Marloes Coenen at Invicta FC 6. Cyborg defended the strap three times before making her UFC debut in her native Brazil last May, dispatching Leslie Smith by knockout in just a minute and change.

With Cyborg's UFC run superseding a potential return to the all-female promotion, Megan Anderson was crowned Invicta's interim featherweight champ with a second-round TKO of Charmaine Tweet in January, although it remains to be seen if she'll be promoted to undisputed queen now that Cyborg is officially out of the picture.

Cyborg last entered the Octagon in September at UFC Fight Night 95, where she laid a two-round drubbing on Lina Lansberg in the main event, and hasn't lost in 17 bouts spanning nearly 12 years.
