After letting several top-10 fighters walk recently, the UFC is poised to add a major contender to its ranks.

Former World Series of Fighting bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes has a "deal in principal" to compete inside the Octagon, according to MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani. Nothing has been signed and no fight has been booked yet.

Moraes officially parted ways with WSOF in January after a four-year run with the promotion saw him go 11-0 and establish himself as one of the best fighters in the world at 135 pounds. He won a bantamweight title in March 2014 and went on to successfully defend it five times before being stripped when he became a free agent.

Overall, the 28-year-old Moraes has won his past 13 fights and holds a professional record of 18-4-1.
