Watch: Ortiz wraps up 19-year career with 1st-round submission of Sonnen

Bellator MMA

Tito Ortiz got his fairy tale ending.

In what was billed as the last fight of Ortiz's 19-year career, "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" needed just 2:03 to submit Chael Sonnen with a rear-naked choke in the main event of Bellator 170 on Saturday in Inglewood, Calif.

Post-fight, Ortiz confirmed his retirement by handing his gloves to his son Jacob, who laid them down in the center of the cage.

If Sonnen was the victor of their war of words leading up to fight night, the actual contest was completely different. Ortiz initiated the action with a takedown in the opening minute and while Sonnen attempted to counter with submission attempts, none came close to finishing Ortiz.

Instead, Ortiz maneuvered himself into full mount where he utilized his trademark ground-and-pound to weaken Sonnen's defenses. When Sonnen gave up his back, Ortiz trapped him in a fight-ending choke to close out his storied career on a high note.

In 32 professional bouts, Ortiz recorded 19 wins, 12 losses, and one draw. He is a former UFC light heavyweight champion who still owns the second-most defenses of that title (five).

Sonnen was making his Bellator debut and fighting for the first time since Nov. 2013. The three-time UFC title challenger retired in June 2014 after failing a drug test and receiving a two-year suspension from MMA competition.
