Report: Jones settles with NAC, receives 1-year ban for failed drug test

Jon Jones' business with the Nevada Athletic Commission is finally settled.

On Thursday, Jones and his legal team reached an agreement with the NAC that will see the former UFC light heavyweight champion suspended for one year, according to a report from MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani, citing multiple sources.

That punishment is retroactive to July 6, when it was reported that Jones tested positive for a banned substance. The verdict is expected to become official at an NAC hearing on Dec. 15.

Fortunately for Jones, the NAC suspension will run concurrently with his one-year suspension handed down by the United States Anti-Doping Agency in November.

According to Jones, his failed test was the result of using a tainted sex supplement that contained substances on the USADA's banned list, which could potentially play a role in steroid cycles. Jones denies any intentional wrongdoing, and while the USADA agreed with the spirit of his appeal, he was still issued a suspension for not being more careful about what he put into his body.

While the NAC is under no obligation to follow the USADA's ruling, it's apparently chosen to mirror that agency's verdict.

Jones will be eligible for reinstatement into MMA competition in July 2017.
