Report: Assuncao-Sterling rescheduled for UFC on FOX 23

Jason Silva / USA TODAY Sports

After a minor bump in the road, Raphael Assuncao and Aljamain Sterling will collide at UFC on FOX 23.

Assuncao and Sterling were scheduled to fight Dec. 9 in Albany until an injury to Sterling led to the cancellation of the bout and Assuncao being removed from the card. Now, the top 10 bantamweights are rescheduled to fight Jan. 28 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, according to a report from Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting.

Currently ranked as the No. 3 contender at 135 pounds, Assuncao was on a seven-fight winning streak before losing a unanimous decision in a rematch with TJ Dillashaw at UFC 200.

Sterling suffered the first setback of his 13-fight career when he lost to Bryan Caraway by unanimous decision this past May. "The Funk Master" currently sits at No. 8 in the official rankings.
