Nevada commissioner Lundvall's appointment to end this month
One of MMA's foremost gatekeepers is nearing the end of her term, as Pat Lundvall's nine-year run as a Nevada athletic commissioner will end Oct. 31, reports MMAFighting's Marc Raimondi.
Lundvall was first appointed to the commission by Gov. Jim Gibbons in 2007, and elected as its first woman chair just two years later. The governor's office reportedly informed her she wouldn't be re-appointed earlier this week.
In one of her last exploits as state commish, Lundvall most recently motioned to fine Conor McGregor $150,000 for his role in a bottle-throwing fiasco with Nate Diaz just days before their rematch at UFC 202. The penalty has reportedly since been trimmed to $75,000, plus the value of a public-service announcement. UFC boss Dana White deemed the verdict "insane," while McGregor doesn't see himself returning to the MMA mecca anytime soon.
The soon-to-be-former commissioner also found herself a rival in Nick Diaz when she presided over his hearing for a third marijuana offense in 2015. Lundvall first motioned for a lifetime ban, then a five-year suspension, before the commission settled on an 18-month penance and a $100,000 hit in January 2016.
