'Bigfoot' Silva, UFC agree to part ways

Jason Da Silva / USA TODAY

Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva and the UFC officially parted ways on Friday.

The veteran heavyweight came to a mutual agreement with the promotion to not renew his contract, according to MMAjunkie citing an official from Silva's camp.

Silva was last seen being knocked out by Roy Nelson in September, his sixth loss by KO in his past eight fights. Nine of the Brazilian's career losses have come by way of strikes, with all but one happening outside of the first round. Following the loss to Nelson, Silva's manager said that "Bigfoot" would look overseas for his next booking if he was released.

Though recent years have been unkind to the Brazilian, he has a few highlights to hang his sizable hat on. At UFC 156, he pulled off an incredible comeback against future UFC title contender Alistair Overeem to win by third-round KO, and he owns a win over all-time heavyweight great Fedor Emelianko during their time in the Strikeforce promotion.

The 37-year-old Silva owns a professional record of 19-10 with one no-contest.
