McGregor: They'll need an army to take my titles if I beat Alvarez

Gary A. Vasquez / USA TODAY

UFC president Dana White has made it clear that, while he is allowing Conor McGregor to compete for a second belt, he is not allowing him to keep both.

The reigning featherweight champion challenges lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez on Nov. 12 in New York City with Alvarez's title on the line. One major topic of debate has been what will happen to the two titles should McGregor defeat Alvarez.

In the past, only former lightweight champ BJ Penn was allowed to hold onto his belt and challenge for another when he faced Georges St-Pierre at UFC 94. Penn lost, which saved the UFC from any controversy.

At the UFC 205 press conference on Tuesday, McGregor spelled out exactly what will happen if he becomes a dual-division champion.

"I'm going to wrap one on one shoulder, I'm gonna wrap the other on the other shoulder, and they're gonna need a fuckin' army to come take them belts off me!"

It's safe to say that this discussion is far from settled.
