Pepey snags another 1st-round win with submission of De La Torre

Godofredo Pepey was at his manic best Saturday night.

The explosive Brazilian featherweight brought the Brasilia crowd to their feet with a first-round rear-naked choke submission win over Mike De La Torre to kick off the main card of UFC Fight Night 95.

Pepey stepped in on six weeks' notice for an injured Renato Moicano, and was rewarded with his fourth win in five appearances. All four of those wins have come by way of first-round knockout or submission.

It didn't take long for both men to start throwing with little regard for human life. At multiple points in the first round, it looked like either fighter might land the decisive blow. Pepey charged forward with spinning kicks and a flying knee, and while De La Torre did his best to counter, he could only withstand the onslaught for so long.

Pepey backed De La Torre up against the fence and scored with hard punches, then took De La Torre's back and dragged him to the mat. De La Torre fought off the choke as long as he could, but was forced to tap out at the 3:03 mark of Round 1.

With the loss, De La Torre continues a trend of alternating wins and losses in five fights since joining the UFC in April 2014 (excluding one no-contest).
