Tate-Pennington booked for UFC 205 in New York

Miesha Tate is getting back in the saddle against a hungry top-10 opponent.

On Friday, the UFC announced the former women's bantamweight champion will face No. 8-ranked Raquel Pennington at UFC 205 on Nov. 12 in New York. It will be Tate's first fight since losing her title to Amanda Nunes in the main event of UFC 200 in July.

Tate claimed UFC gold with her dramatic rear-naked choke submission of Holly Holm at UFC 196, only to lose her first defense when Nunes submitted Tate inside of a round. Tate is currently ranked as the No. 1 contender, having won five straight fights before being defeated by Nunes.

Though the bout order has not been set, the quickly rising Pennington will likely compete in her first PPV main-card fight since a split-decision loss to Holm in February 2015. "Rocky" has won three straight bouts and four of her past five, including a split decision over one-time title contender Bethe Correia.

Tate-Pennington joins an increasingly stacked UFC 205 card. The promotion's New York debut is expected to be headlined by a pair of title fights - a strawweight championship bout between Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Karolina Kowalkiewicz has already been announced, while welterweight champion Tyron Woodley said he'll defend his belt against Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson.
