Report: UFC 202 estimated buyrate in range of 1.5M

Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz have done it again.

UFC 202 - which was headlined by a highly-anticipated rematch between two of the sport's most magnetic personalities - is on pace to record a massive pay-per-view buyrate in the 1.2-1.5 million range according to Dave Meltzer of MMA Fighting. Even the lower estimate would place UFC 202 among the top-three highest grossing events alongside UFC 100 and UFC 196, which was headlined by the first McGregor-Diaz bout.

Despite issues with selling out the premium tickets to the event, the reported live gate was over $7.6 million, good for fifth in UFC history.

The card likely received a big boost from the fight week theatrics of McGregor and Diaz. At a press conference three days before the rematch on Aug. 20, they engaged in a loud, profanity-laced argument that was punctuated by the two fighters hurling bottles and cans at each other.

According to Marc Raimondi, UFC 202 is the fifth UFC event in the past nine months to break the one million buys mark, along with UFC 200, UFC 196, UFC 194, and UFC 193.
