Henderson '100 percent' supports Hunt's call for fighter's union

It's no secret Mark Hunt has some bones to pick with the UFC - his outrage is now even being heard in other fight promotions.

Hunt lost a unanimous decision to Brock Lesnar at UFC 200, after which Lesnar failed two drug tests. "The Super Samoan" has since demanded either Lesnar's fight purse or to be released, cursed out the UFC on Monday after it was confirmed the company wouldn't fine his opponent, and expressed a desire to form a fighter's union.

A former UFC champion and current Bellator fighter seconds the latter motion.

Benson Henderson told MMA Fighting on Tuesday that he "100 percent" supports "everything he (Hunt)'s doing and talking about."

The 32-year-old also made sure to tip his proverbial hat to fighters who've shed light on similar issues. The collective currently suing the UFC on antitrust grounds includes former UFC vets Jon Fitch and Cung Le. "Smooth" went on to add that mixed martial arts is still a very young sport, especially compared to the "Big Four" or boxing, meaning many young fighters have yet to grasp the white-collar side of the profession.

"So as a professional athlete you think, oh, I should get this. There are certain things, for actors, it's the same way. They get to enjoy the Screen Actors Guild, they're, ‘this is what you should get.' It's not an extra thing, it's not something nice. If you go on the set, and you're there for a 10-hour shoot, you're supposed to get lunch, they're supposed to provide lunch for you. It's not ‘oh my god! They gave us lunch and sandwiches, awesome, this is great!' No, you're supposed to get that, you should get that."

Henderson mentions professional football and boxing, the latter sport forever attached at MMA's hip, whether rightfully or not, to shed further light on the discrepancy in the sports' treatment of athletes.

"Boxers are used to it. They know they are supposed to get this and supposed to get that, and what it's supposed to be like and how it is supposed to be conducted. Us, as mixed martial artists, we're finally getting like, ‘oh yeah, we should make this much money.' NFL, they had a lockout so that they could get 51 percent of the total gross revenue. Us fighters, we get, like, seven percent, maybe seven percent of gross revenues.

"So, us as athletes, we're not that smart and it took us awhile to get our act together."
