The World Cup of Freestyle Wrestling named Daniel Cormier an honorary chairman Thursday, according to Marc Raimondi of MMA Fighting.

Cormier's main responsibility will be promoting the 2016 edition of the event, which takes place on June 11 and 12 in Inglewood, Calif.

The full list of nations competing at the World Cup has yet to be announced, though Iran has finished on top the past four years. The U.S. team is expected to include all six members of the country's 2016 Olympic squad.

Prior to his life as UFC light heavyweight champion, Cormier was a renowned freestyle wrestler. He qualified twice for the Olympics, finishing fourth in 2004 in Athens, Greece. Cormier also wrestled for two years at Oklahoma State, where he finished with a 53-10 record and All-American designation in 2001.

Cormier meets interim light heavyweight champion Jon Jones in a unification bout at UFC 200 on July 9 in Las Vegas.
