'MMA fighter' could be next for Mayweather, father says

Mountains would have to be moved in order for Floyd Mayweather to fight UFC star Conor McGregor, but that hasn't stopped people from talking about it.

The latest person to publicly chime in is none other than Floyd Mayweather Sr.

He told EsNews that his son told him he's going to take another fight, possibly against "some kind of MMA fighter."

Though he didn't initially mention McGregor, when asked specifically if he's the fighter in question, Mayweather Sr. locked in his prediction for the hypothetical matchup.

"We'd beat the hell out of that man," Mayweather Sr. said, according to Anton Tabuena of Bloody Elbow. "My son can whoop him. He's dead."

Mayweather Sr. suggested a bout with McGregor would occur under boxing rules. He also said his son could fight before the end of the year, though it's unclear whether it would be against McGregor, the aforementioned "MMA fighter," or someone else entirely.

"I really don't know exactly when, but I'm pretty sure it's going to come around soon," Mayweather Sr. said. "It won't be that long."

It should be noted that the boxer's father has a history of making outlandish statements when discussing his son's career.

On Friday, UFC president Dana White said there's no truth to the rumored clash, which he dismissed as a "tabloid story."
