Former light-heavyweight champs to square off at UFC 123

TORONTO - Former light-heavyweight champions Quinton (Rampage) Jackson and Lyoto (The Dragon) Machida will meet in the main event of UFC 123 in Auburn Hills, Mich.

UFC president Dana White confirmed the matchup at the Palace of Auburn Hills in the Detroit suburb.

Machida (16-1) lost the 205-pound title in May to Mauricio (Shogun) Rua at UFC 113 in Montreal.

Jackson (30-8) won the championship from Chuck (The Iceman) Liddell at UFC 71 in May 2007, defending it against Dan Henderson before losing a decision to Forrest Griffin at UFC 86 in July 2008.

He is coming off a loss by decision to Rashad Evans at UFC 114 in May.

The Michigan fight will precede UFC 124, slated for Dec. 11 in Montreal.
