Top 5 goals from MLS Week 2

Reuters

Week 2 of MLS action produced yet another slate of incredible goals, highlighted by a nominee for goal of the year by Quincy Amarikwa. There were plenty of efforts to choose from, not least of all from the Houston Dynamo's 5-0 drubbing of FC Dallas.

Here are the five goals we rank best among the bunch from Week 2 of the 2016 MLS season:

5. Ricardo Clark hits brutal run-and-gun goal

The Houston Dynamo thoroughly dismantled FC Dallas in the first of three Texas Derby matches this season and while most of the goals in this game were pretty straightforward, Ricardo Clark's 23rd-minute strike is the peach among the pits. His instinctual run and oh-so-satisfying smacker curved around the net to make it 3-0 before the half-hour mark. Ouch!

4. Marco Pappa volleys home last-minute winner

While Houston had the game wrapped up early, the Colorado Rapids left it late against the LA Galaxy, but they all count the same. Marco Pappa's 95th-minute game-winner was certainly a thing of beauty for more than one reason; not only did it secure all three points for his points-starved team, but it was also an objectively sweet hit, a volley-shot streaming past a rather helpless 'keeper.

3. Sebastian Giovinco tiptoes past NYCFC

The Atomic Ant has struck again. Yankee Stadium has seen its fair share of dazzling efforts from the nimble feet of Sebastian Giovinco and his latest fare fits the billing to a tee. We're particularly impressed with Giovinco's first touch; in one motion, the Italian picks the ball out of the air and turns towards goal, before tormenting NYCFC's three-man back line and releasing his driven shot.

2. Dom Dwyer smacks home a beauty

Just leave 'em chasing, Dom Dwyer. The Sporting Kansas City striker left the Vancouver Whitecaps defenders with their hands on their hips and their heads bowed after blowing past them before unfurling a rocket shot into the top of the net. Dwyer, an expecting father, is far too underrated.

1. Quincy Amarikwa stuns with 40-yard chip shot

OK. You ready for this one? Here we go. Quincy Amarikwa's goal against the MLS Cup-winning Portland Timbers is an ab-so-lute beauty. This 40-yard chipped shot leaves goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey for dead and while it may have been tinged in more than its fair share of luck, how many players would be audacious enough to even try it in the first place? Well earned, Quincy!

Bonus: Matt Hedges' horrible own goal

Oh boy ... *sigh*
