Amid arguably his worst season in England's top flight since making the transatlantic voyage in 2003, Everton keeper Tim Howard is reportedly close to joining the Colorado Rapids.

Recently named the Toffees' second-choice shot-stopper behind Joel Robles by manager Roberto Martinez, Howard's tenure at Goodison Park appears to be in its final days, with the 36-year-old slated to join Colorado, according to a report from ESPN FC.

Considered to be the United States' marquee keeper for the better part of a decade, Howard could return to MLS for the first time since 2003, when he played for MetroStars (now known as New York Red Bulls).

According to reports, Rapids general manager Tim Hinchey flew to England last week to discuss details of a potential move, with Howard expected to join the MLS outfit at the end of the Premier League season. The MLS' transfer window opens again in July.

Despite signing a four-year extension with Everton in 2014, Howard is poised to become the MLS' highest-paid keeper, with reports suggesting the U.S. international is looking for a $5-million per year deal.
