The New England Revolution received unwanted news out of Switzerland as the club's newest Designated Player, Xavier Kouassi, picked up a serious knee sprain while playing with FC Sion, according to the Swiss club.

Kouassi, 26, signed with the Revs earlier in the year but would not have joined the team until the opening of the 2016 summer transfer window in July. But on Sunday, during a Swiss league match against FC Zurich, the Sion captain suffered a serious injury and had to be carted off.

Sion confirmed Kouassi is out for the remainder of the Swiss season and there are fears the midfielder has a torn ACL. But Sion's official website lists the injury as a heavy sprain and added that tests will be conducted to determine how long Kouassi will be sidelined.
