LAFC owner Will Ferrell talks life as club brass; admits guilt in Mourinho firing

Will Ferrell has played a number of different characters in the world of sports, but the beloved comedian is set to take on his most serious sporting role yet: that of soccer club executive.

"I'm going to be cold and distant and show up at very inopportune times and shout, yes, berate players in the middle of games," Ferrell told Men in Blazers.

Ferrell was announced as a part-owner of new MLS side Los Angeles FC and he has big plans for the club; he's identified Freddy Adu as one of his targets, asking the Men in Blazers if the iconic U.S. soccer bust ever panned out. He also revealed just how he became an owner of a professional soccer team.

"This happened, I got an email from my good friend Larry Berg, who's part of the ownership group, who said there might be an opportunity to become a part of this brand-new MLS club, and I thought 'why not?'" he said.

Ferrell has long been thought to be a fan of Premier League outfit Chelsea, but, sporting his LAFC scarf, he dispelled any association with the Blues.

"I just went to one game and (Chelsea) gave me a scarf," he explained. "Then they sent me a jersey and I wore the jersey a couple times. Next thing you know, I'm a massive Chelsea fan. That having been said, I like the color blue.

"I feel horribly guilty because I feel like I had a hand in getting Jose Mourinho fired. I made a joke at the GQ awards in London, where Mourinho was receiving a special award. I made a crack, 'I love your style, seven men in the box, defensive soccer, keep it going!' and then, next thing you know ... I'm so sorry. I was just trying to make a joke."
