The Vancouver Whitecaps announced Wednesday the club has signed midfielder Christian Bolanos to a multi-year contract, using Targeted Allocation Money to complete the transfer with Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa.

Bolanos, 31, joins Vancouver having made 60 international appearances with Costa Rica, including a wonderful run in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The 5-foot-9 winger scored five goals in 14 games last season with Saprissa.

"Christian is a proven winner," Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson said in a statement. "He's a player we've coveted for a while and we're delighted to add his wealth of experience to our club. Christian is a natural winger and we expect him to complement our young attacking players very well."

Bolanos began his career with Saprissa but has had playing stints across the world, including with FC Copenhagen in Denmark, where he played in over 100 matches, scoring 14 goals.

He joins a Whitecaps team looking to add depth to its midfield, having recently completed the signing of Deybi Flores from C.D. Motagua.
