German outfit Werder Bremen announced Tuesday that Stanford University standout Jordan Morris has opted to turn professional and play in the United States rather than in Europe.

The highly-touted striker has been on trial with Bremen in the past week and was reportedly offered a contract with the German side, but club CEO Thomas Eichin said Morris has his sights set on domestic soccer.

"After intensive discussions, the player has made it clear that he currently sees his future in America," Eichin said, translated from German. "We, of course, respect this decision."

Should Morris choose to play in the U.S., he has a few options: He could join a team in the North American Soccer League (NASL) or he could join the Seattle Sounders in Major League Soccer.

Since Morris played for the Sounders' academy, his rights are currently owned by Seattle. As such, an MLS move would see Morris join fellow U.S. international Clint Dempsey at CenturyLink Field.
