Seattle Sounders midfielder Andy Rose has joined English League One side Coventry City on a free transfer for a deal that runs until June of 2017, the club announced Wednesday.

Rose - who spent the last few weeks on trial with the Sky Blues - will join the club on Jan. 2, 2016 when his contract with Seattle expires and the winter transfer window opens.

"We had Andy over for a trial, and during that time he impressed me with his athleticism and the attributes he brings to the position," Coventry manager Tony Mowbray said. "He's 6-foot-3, very lean, upright, and covers the ground and eats the grass up when he runs.

"Andy will have to learn the way we play and he showed good progress during his trial period so I'm looking forward to working with him further."

The 25-year-old Australian-born midfielder made over 80 appearances for Seattle since joining the side in 2012. Sounders general manager Garth Lagerway wished Rose well in a statement on the club website:

"I think it was something he always wanted to do," Lagerwey said. "We're happy for our players wherever they end up. Our door is open, either in the short term or long term."
