Red Bulls decline contract options for Shaun Wright-Phillips, 8 others
Fresh off a loss in the MLS Cup Eastern Conference Championship, the New York Red Bulls have begun planning for the 2016 season, announcing Wednesday that the club declined contract options on nine of its players.
Former England international Shaun Wright-Phillips spearheads the list of players, which also includes: goalkeeper Kyle Reynish; defenders Damien Perrinelle, Roy Miller, and Anthony Wallace; midfielders Leo Stolz and Marius Obekop; and forwards Manolo Sanchez and Dane Richards.
"We want to thank each player for their service to the club and wish them nothing but the best moving forward," Red Bulls sporting director Ali Curtis said in a statement.
While some of these players are eligible for the re-entry draft on Dec. 11, Curtis said the club is "in discussions" with Wright-Phillips, Reynish, and Perrinelle about coming back in 2016.
