Seattle head coach Schmid wants to remain with team in 2016

Seattle Sounders manager Sigi Schmid has been at the club's helm since its inception in 2009, so, it's no wonder questions of his future have risen after the Sounders missed out a sixth consecutive MLS Cup Finals appearance in 2015.

The Sounders crashed out of the playoffs once more, this time in a penalty shootout against FC Dallas on Sunday. While Schmid signed a contract extension in December, the availability of Jason Kreis after his ouster at New York City FC, combined with Schmid's health issues, put up a few question marks at the end of the season for the 62-year-old manager.

Namely: does Schmid see himself staying at CenturyLink Field next season?

"Obviously, that’s not my decision," Schmid told reporters. "That’s ownership’s decision, and they’ll decide that. But I feel fine, and I still feel capable of coaching."

Schmid has been around the block a few times in MLS, having twice won the MLS Cup, in 2002 with the LA Galaxy and in 2008 with the Columbus Crew. Yet, the elusive third remains out of his grasp while in charge of Seattle.

"The Cup is what we haven’t given (the fans) yet," Schmid said. "We’ve given them four Open Cups, we’ve given them a Supporters’ Shield. Our trophy case has a lot more in it than Dallas, as an example.

"There’s nothing I want to do more, and nothing the guys in the room want to do more, than bring an MLS Cup back to Seattle. Hopefully one day that’ll happen."
