Cascadia belongs to Portland: Timbers advance to Western Conference final

The fifth time is the charm.

On Sunday, in the second leg of the Western Conference Semifinals, the Portland Timbers did what they had failed to do through four previous meetings in 2015, defeating the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 and, by virtue of the result, booking their place in the Western Conference Championship.

A scoreless draw in the first leg left everything to play for at BC Place, but the Timbers were in full control from the moment the fixture kicked off, and nobody was surprised when Fanendo Adi opened the scoring in the 31st minute after Major League Soccer's hipster club strung together a phenomenal sequence of passes beginning with a throw-in.

Diego Chara produced the Timbers' second goal in the 94th minute, capping off a well-executed counterattack after the Whitecaps threw all their players forward. However, no recap would be complete without mentioning Darlington Nagbe, Portland's Liberia-born engine who received his first-ever call-up to the U.S. Men's National Team earlier this week.

Nagbe was, simply put, superb.

It's also worth noting the Timbers, as always, received excellent support on the road, something that the Whitecaps didn't take well on Twitter.

The Timbers will take on FC Dallas in the Western Conference Championship.
