Philadelphia veteran Le Toux wants to stay, urges team to step it up in 2016

Philadelphia Union winger Sebastien Le Toux had a year to forget in 2015 as his side finished second-last in the Eastern Conference, winning only 10 games and losing 17.

But, the 31-year-old French footballer isn't looking to leave PPL Park anytime soon, either.

"I just want to play here," Le Toux told reporters. "I love to play in Philadelphia. Even in knowing that we are not winning a lot, I really care about this team and this franchise. I have one more option (year) and I want to finish my career here. And I can play a long, long time."

Philadelphia ended the 2015 season on Decision Day with a 1-0 win over expansion outfit Orlando City, with Le Toux scoring a penalty to secure a victory in a season that hasn't had many high points. Club head coach Jim Curtin was pleased with the win and thankful to the fans who stuck with his team during a tough season.

"It was a good team effort, a good way to end what was a difficult season,” Curtin said after the match. "We're not satisfied by any stretch. Thank you to the fans that supported us all year through the highs and the lows. We're happy for our guys to send them home on a high note at the end of the year."

As one of the veterans and leaders of a young Philadelphia team, Le Toux is asking his teammates to step it up in the 2016 season.

"We say we are a young team, but maybe now we have to man up and say, 'Hey, we're not young anymore,' and take responsibility for our mistakes," Le Toux said. "When someone doesn't step up to take his chance, someone else has to make the play. I hope next year it's going to be more of a good opportunity and not just talking about what we could have done better."
