Jason Kreis shuts down 'absolutely ludicrous' links to Seattle Sounders

New York City FC head coach Jason Kreis is scratching his head, after hearing a report during the half-time break of the New York Red Bulls' 2-1 win over the Montreal Impact on Wednesday that had him moving to Seattle.

Broadcaster Shep Messing revealed during the break that he had sources linking Seattle Sounders manager Sigi Schmid to NYCFC, with Kreis going the opposite direction.

"I was watching the game last night and it caught me completely by surprise," Kreis told reporters Thursday. "I thought it was an absolutely ludicrous statement and unfounded. I have no knowledge of that information at all."

Kreis has links to Sounders president Garth Lagerway, having worked under him at Real Salt Lake. But Kreis says he's quite happy in New York, and is excited to take his expansion side into a second season next year.

"I think that this is a tremendous challenge that we've embarked on and I'm not ready to leave it," Kreis said of the NYCFC job. "If it’s up to me - and maybe it won't be up to me - I'm going to stay here and fight."
