5 things we learned in Major League Soccer this weekend: The LA Galaxy are unstoppable

With another weekend of MLS action in the books, we take a look back at five things we learned from the latest slate of matches.

The LA Galaxy are a juggernaut

There is no team in Major League Soccer more utterly dominant over a consistent period of time than the LA Galaxy. The league's reigning MVP Robbie Keane definitely proved that statement true, toying around with New York City FC over 90 minutes on Sunday.

But it's not just Keane, or Steven Gerrard, or Giovani Dos Santos, that makes this team tick - guys like Sebastian Lletget, Juninho, and Robbie Rogers are tremendously underrated.

The Galaxy might be an unstoppable team but they weren't the only five-goal victors this weekend. In fact, LA might need to be careful come playoff time, because ...

Toronto FC is the league's hottest hot-and-cold team

If the stars align, the LA Galaxy might face their toughest test ever at the MLS Cup Final with an unexpected foe. Toronto FC, when hot, might just be the best team in MLS. Led by Sebastian Giovinco and Michael Bradley, rounded off a season-long spanking of Kaka and Orlando City with yet another huge win.

Besides Giovinco's sweet free kick, Toronto FC looked absolutely dominant over Orlando in the second half. Yes, the Reds had a man advantage and are now 10-10-4, losing as many games as it has won. But, when Toronto FC are hot, when Bradley is bossing the middle of the park, when Jozy Altidore is swatting defenders off of him, and when Giovinco is doing Giovinco things, no one can stop them.

Didier Drogba needs more time to thrive in MLS

Impact fans finally got to see their newest star signing Didier Drogba take to the field against the Philadelphia Union, and that sold-out crowd at Stade Saputo watched as the Ivory Coast international ... didn't do much, actually.

Drogba came on at the 60-minute mark and lumbered around the box for half an hour while Montreal's midfielders tried to learn how he moves (not much). Not everyone can score on their debut, sure, and Drogba can be a definite handful, but what is clear is that Montreal needs time to gel.

While Drogba continues battling with fitness issues and works to break into the Impact starting XI, he can take solace knowing that it will all be worth it, because ...

MLS is a hunting ground for big center forwards

Will Bruin, Kei Kamara, Conor Doyle, Chris Wondolowski, and Altidore - each standing at a height of at least 6 feet tall - all enjoyed a dominant weekend, guiding their respective teams to positive results while the (much smaller) defenders did nothing but watch.

Whether it was Altidore scoring his eighth and ninth goals of the season (and earning the nickname of "the Beast"), Kamara muscling around Sporting Kansas City defendersm, or Doyle springing an attack with his physical presence, the big bodies in MLS were untouchable over the weekend. Oh, and Wondolowski notched his 100th goal for San Jose, too.

These burly center forwards must give plenty of credit to their teammates, who provide them with the assists they need to score those tap-in goals. Unfortunately, David Villa can't say the same, because ...

New York City's midfield stars aren't shining

Frank Lampard isn't healthy enough to play. Andrea Pirlo aged several decades overnight. Mix Diskerud has been in a funk all season. Whatever New York City's top brass was hoping for from these three highly-touted midfielders, it's not going to get.

Luckily, New York does have one decent midfielder - Kwadwo Poku has emerged as an unexpected force for Jason Kreis' side. He was the only real option New York had against the Galaxy, which was nowhere near enough to take on the reigning MLS champs.

Poor New York City. So many stars, so little actual star performers.
