LA Galaxy midfielder Steven Gerrard and New York City FC's Frank Lampard have a bit of a history.

The two Premier League stars are icons at Liverpool and Chelsea respectively, and teammates on the English national team. And both midfielders embarked on a new journey this year, swapping the English top flight for Major League Soccer.

The two were spotted (and photographed) meeting at the Galaxy's home stadium Sunday, and shared a quick chat ahead of the match. Gerrard, playing against Lampard for the 34th time, told reporters that the game - but only the game - means war.

"When that whistle goes for 90 minutes, when we're competing against each other, it's war," Gerrard said. "We fight against each other, we always have. When the whistle blows to finish, there's a mutual respect there, and we've always got on off the pitch, regardless of what other people say.

"So if Frank plays from the beginning or if he comes on, we become enemies, and when the game's over we become friends again."
