Orlando City ends negotiations with Sao Paulo for Paulo Henrique Ganso

MLS outfit Orlando City SC and Brazilian club Sao Paulo are heading to court for unpaid fees and fines totaling $4.3 million.

Reports emerged Wednesday that Orlando City had filed a lawsuit against Sao Paulo after the Brazilian club allegedly failed to produce accurate documentation and payments due on terms outlined in a loan deal for star midfielder Kaka.

Orlando also reportedly offered Sao Paulo an out in the form of a player signing instead, with the new MLS franchise eyeing midfielder Paulo Henrique Ganso. Should Sao Paulo agree to selling Ganso, Orlando would forgive those debts. But, with a Thursday deadline now passed, Orlando has given up the pursuit for Ganso and is going ahead with legal proceedings instead.

"Orlando City Soccer Club closes negotiations for Paulo Henrique Ganso due to lack of response from Sao Paulo FC by the specified deadline," the team said in a statement published in the Orlando Sentinel. "The Club will pursue a collection lawsuit for the non-payment of all the commitments owed by Sao Paulo FC as part of the loan deal of the player Kaká. No further comments will be issued on this matter."

Orlando City filed the suit in the 27th Civil Court of Sao Paulo, Paul Tenorio of the Sentinel reports. With negotiations closed over Ganso, Orlando City has until Aug. 6 to find new players, before the MLS summer transfer window comes to a close.
