Real Salt Lake-Galaxy Preview

Robbie Keane made a successful return to help the Los Angeles Galaxy extend their longest home unbeaten streak.

Still recovering from injury, though, it's unclear what his role will be Wednesday night against visiting Real Salt Lake.

The Galaxy (4-4-5) won for the first time in six matches with Friday's 1-0 victory over Houston, improving to 16-0-6 at home in regular-season play since April 12 while outscoring opponents 52-16 with nine clean sheets. That includes a 4-0-2 mark there this season with just three goals allowed.

Keane's cross set up Alan Gordon's winning header in stoppage time, giving Los Angeles its second stoppage-time win. Gordon's goal was his fourth of the season, while Keane had missed eight games with a strained groin. The reigning league MVP had 19 goals and 14 assists last year.

"I'm not a player that eases into things," Keane said. "As soon as I'm ready, to want to jump right in and help the team as much as I can."

Despite Keane's sentiments, however, coach Bruce Arena tempered expectations. The 34-year-old came on in the 56th minute against the Dynamo.

"First of all, we have to see how he recovers," Arena told the team's official website. "He's going to need a little more time. We're going to obviously see how he responds in the next couple of days."

Salt Lake (4-3-5) was the last team to win at Los Angeles in the regular season, taking a 1-0 victory March 8, 2014, on a goal by Joao Plata.

Plata made his season debut in a 2-0 home win against New York City FC on Saturday, RSL's second win in three matches. Plata, who scored a team-best 13 goals last season, was sidelined by a broken foot. Javier Morales, who had two goals and three assists in his first six games, also returned from a concussion.

"That was really close to the complete game that we keep striving for," coach Jeff Cassar said. "...I think you can see what we can do when we have a full arsenal of players."

Cassar got goals from John Stertzer and Alvaro Saborio in their first of three matches in eight days. Stertzer's goal was the first of his career.

These clubs played a scoreless draw at Salt Lake on May 6, stretching RSL's winless streak in the series to three - its longest since four straight draws from Sept. 19, 2007-May 6, 2009. The teams have combined for only four goals over the last four meetings.

The regular-season series is even at 11-11-7.
