MLS Game Summary - Seattle at Vancouver

Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - Chad Barrett scored a pair of goals in the first half to propel Seattle Sounders FC to a 2-0 win over Cascadia rivals Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BC Place on Saturday.

Barrett struck the opener inside five minutes and he added a second goal in the 38th to help Seattle claim a fourth win in five games.

Clint Dempsey extended his streak of recording at least a goal or assist to 10 games as he set up Barrett's opening goal, while Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei kept his fifth clean sheet of the season.

Dempsey got things going for Seattle when he took control of the ball in midfield and played a well-weighted through ball in behind the defense. Vancouver goalkeeper David Ousted came off his line to cut out the pass, but Barrett beat him to the ball and poked it past the netminder.

The home tried to respond within two minutes as Pedro Morales worked his way to the top of the penalty area and curled a shot on goal that Frei did well to tip over the crossbar.

Marco Pappa played provider on the second goal when he curled a ball down the left wing that Barrett tracked down and drove inside the far post with a nice left-footed effort.

Seattle was very cautious after the break and kept players behind the ball, making it difficult for Vancouver to find a way through.

The Sounders nearly added a third goal late in the match as new signing Darwin Jones broke in on goal and had his shot tipped past the near post by Ousted.
